Living in Purpose
Published August 19, 2008 Uncategorized 2 CommentsTags: Church Health Center, faith and health
Everything, every person, every place, and every experience has its purpose. And in this life, each of us must discover where our true purpose lies, what we were created to do with the talents given to us. That journey begins from the first time we declare what we’re going to be when we grow up. I think I first wanted to be a doctor. A drummer. Then a singer. At some point an astronaut. And who knows what else?! But early on, I knew it didn’t really matter what plan I set for myself, but more about God’s plan for my life. There were many things I was good at and a lot I was terrible at that I thought would be great careers for me. However, I knew that I was being molded for greatness. I struggled with letting go of my ideal picture of my life as a doctor. But I realized there was another way where I could best serve the community and still be successful.
While interning at Church Health Center, I began to understand the connection between faith and health and also saw a way to combine my passion to work in healthcare with my faith. Which led me to pursue a career in Public Health. This fall, I am beginning my graduate studies in Social Health Behavior at University of Alabama Birmingham. Here I will share my thoughts, inspirations, career moves, and resources. I invite you to join me for this journey.
“Work done for personal gain dulls my spirit, work that produces something beyond myself excites me. Inviting God into my work opens the door for new creativity. Being in the right job, doing the kind of work where I give more than I receive brings a whole new light onto my strength as a man.“
