Getting fit with faith

A very unique online magazine, Faith and Fitness, was designed for those who care about their physical activity and recognize the connection between physical and spiritual fitness. This magazine is produced six times a year and is currently only available online. I found a lot of interesting articles on their website. Check out this article on “Why the Church Should be Doing Fitness”:

Let me know what you think. How do you incorporate faith into your workout?

Health Access Conference

Earlier this week, I attended the Healthcare Access Conference sponsored by the Arise Citizen Policy organization. It was a very interesting and informative day. There were many people present: from students, like myself, to social workers to concerned citizens to health legislators. One session was titled “Ties that Bind”  and led by Rev. Ronnie Williams of Congregations for Public Health(CPH). He discussed the nonprofit started by a group of pastors, in conjuntion with UAB, who saw the importance of promoting health within their congregations and communities. He stated that his interest in health promotion came when he saw “there [had] been this long discussion about the relationship between faith and healthbut without the faith leaders being at the table”. So he decided to do something to change that.

It was very encouraging to see the number of people who came to hear his talk. To me, that says  people realize not only is there a connection between faith and health, but the church is a great resource to educate and motivate people.

CPH has been involved in  various projects such as Search Your Heart, Magic City Stroke Project, CARES, Place Matters and a unique Certificate Program for Ministers at Easonian Bible college.

Called to Serve
